About the Breeder...

I graduated from Fort Hays State University (www.fhsu.edu) in 1972 with a B.S. degree in Home Economics. My degree in nutrition has been helpful in the feeding program of our Poodles. I have specialized in breeding poodles since 1975, and have been a professional Groomer since 1970. I attended Kansas State University (www.k-state.edu), College of Veterinary Medicine (www.vet.ksu.edu), for continued education in Canine Management. "Teacup" Poodle is a name that breeders attached to Tiny Toys. However, they are registered with AKC as Toys, Most breeders of Teacups say that an adult Teacup is 2 to 4 pounds and 6 to 8 inches tall. The correct height measurement is taken from the floor to the withers with the dog standing straight with the head up. An accurate-to-the-ounce scale is important for tiny puppies. Our scale is checked with the post office scale to make sure it is correct to the ounce. In order to guarantee approximate size (height and weight at one year of age), I have to keep the pup until 12 to 13 weeks of age. Our pups are charted every week on their height and weight. The percentage of fat and protein in a puppy's diet and being on full feed, can make a difference on the recorded weight. In breeding Teacups it is helpful to know the genetics. Also, keep the Teacup breeding in at least the second and third generation to produce consistent Tiny Toys and Teacups. Most of my pedigrees have sizes stated in the various generations. It is important to watch for heart problems, hydrocephalus, loose stifles (knee-caps), etc. in the genetics. No breeder has a perfect fault-free line, but many can be corrected with a proper breeding program. Breeding father/daughter, mother/son or brother/sister is discouraged in our facility because of possible health and/or behavior problems. Half brother/sister breeding is questionable in some books I have read. Pups are born in incubators. Some C-sections are necessary on tiny females. I do not breed any female less than three pounds, as it is too risky. Teacups average 1 to 3 pups per litter. Tails and dewclaws are docked and removed between the third and fifth day of age. Pups are healthier and better adjusted if they are not weaned until seven weeks of age. The dam teaches the pup a lot. The puppies have a better immune system by nursing from a healthy dam until seven weeks old. Puppies are home raised with human bonding starting around two weeks of age (most critical time when eyes first open). We hold the pups on their backs and rub their tummies everyday to make them feel secure with a human. Our puppies have nice coats, conformation, and personalities. I have worked with obedience and behavior problems for years, and continue to learn new techniques everyday. Most puppies know what the word "NO" and "QUIET" means before they leave our facility. Letting a Teacup puppy move to a new home at too young of an age is a stress and may cause hypoglycemia (treated with dextrose, Nutri-Cal or honey). Also playing with a puppy too much can stress them out and cause hypoglycemia.

If you want a puppy for a pet have it "spayed or neutered" at a young age. If males are neutered at six months of age or under, it will help to eliminate them from lifting their leg to leave their "mark" at an older age. We use premium quality dry dog foods for puppies and adults. Do not feed table scraps for is can cause obesity, health, and dental problems. Teacups are known for not shedding some of their baby teeth, and need to see a vet around one year of age for a dental check-up.

When shipping a puppy; a health certificate and a 5 - 6 generation pedigree is included. Also, a schedule of worming dates and shots are provided along with the type of medication used. The puppies are professionally groomed and treated for external parasites. I guarantee health for five days and congenital defects until one year of age. Many puppies are shipped safely by air to their new homes. The puppy buyer is responsible for the cost of the airfare and shipping crate. If the buyer chooses to return the puppy for any reason, the cost of the return airfare is the responsibility of the buyer.
